Rapido announces new GWR County Class locomotive

Rapido Trains UK has announced it is at the tooling stage for a range of 00 scale Great Western Railway (GWR) County Class 4-60-0s and Great Central Railway 15T brake vans.

GWR County Class

Ten different versions will be available in liveries covering both Great Western Railway and British Railways service.

Highly detailed diecast in metal with an injection moulded construction.

They feature many separately fitted era-specific details as well as firebox flicker with dynamic fire draw effect and factory-fitted speakers.

There are also MoPower stay-alive, tender pickups, a 21-pin decoder socket, and NEM coupler pockets.

Detail variations include representations of locomotives from their time in Great Western Railway ownership and their later British Railways working life, including single and double chimneys, a vacuum cylinder between the frames, speedo drives, smokebox number plates, buffers, oil pipes, running board pipes, and their County nameplates.

Versions available will include:

  • 1001 County of Bucks – G W lined green.
  • 1005 County of Devon – G W lined green.
  • 1017 County of Hereford – BR (Egyptian) lined green.
  • 1019 County of Merioneth – BR Lined Black early crest.
  • 1013 County of Dorset – BR Lined Black early crest.
  • 1006 County of Cornwall – BR lined green early crest.
  • 1014 County of Glamorgan – BR lined green early crest.
  • 1021 County of Montgomery – BR lined green late crest.
  • 1000 County of Middlesex – BR lined green late crest.
  • 1011 County of Chester – BR lined green late crest.

Great Central Railway 15T brake van

Sixteen versions will be available, each with many separately fitted parts, including highly detailed brake gear, running boards, vacuum pipes, lamp irons and a chimney.

Interior detail includes a guard’s desk, stove, sandboxes and lockers. Side lamps will be included in with the model in a separate package.

Liveries will be available in:

  • Great Central (GC) grey.
  • Cheshire Lines Commission (CLC) early and late grey.
  • London and North Eastern Railway (LNER) pre- and post 1936 freight oxide.
  • British Railways (BR) pre-1964 bauxite, grey and departmental black.
  • National Coal Board (NCB) Durham Division Harton Unit No.A11

These new models follow last year’s release of additions to Rapido’s Evolution range and its range of LMS rolling stock and London, Brighton & South Coast Railway 8-ton goods vans and Great Eastern Railway 5 and 7-plank open wagons.
