Operators of the Tyne and Wear Metro, Nexus, are proposing to introduce a band on all vapes and electronic cigarettes on Metro services and stations.

There is already a ban on cigarettes across the network, but Nexus wants to create a new Metro Byelaw to prohibit the use of vapes.

It is required by the Department for Transport that a 28-day consultation is completed, allowing anyone interested to make a representation about the proposed change.

Anyone interested in making representations about the proposed change can find information how to do so by clicking here

If approved, anyone caught using a vape or e-cigarette can face a fine of up to £1,000.

The consultation runs until 24 March 2025.
