Flying Scotsman has made its first public outing of the year, visiting Peterborough’s Nene Valley Railway.
The visit to the Nene Valley Railway sees the 1924 built locomotive running as part of the Railway 200 celebrations.
The Nene Valley Railway runs between Wansford and Peterborough NVR. The line does extend beyond Wansford to Yarwell Junction, but Flying Scotsman didn’t venture onto this part of the line during our visit.
Train tickets are sold out for Flying Scotsman’s visit to the Nene Valley Railway, including the next two weekends of its visit.

However, footplate visit tickets are still available on selected dates.
It was great to see some many happy faces on the 7 carriage trains as they passed us.
We spent the full weekend with Flying Scotsman, starting off at Wansford as it headed off shed to collect the carriages.
We then visited lots of bridges and lineside locations as the famous locomotive made 5 round trips a day Peterborough.
Whilst Wansford and Peterborough stations were closed to the general public, Orton Mere remained open to the public as did Overton (For Ferry Meadows) – which was lovely to see on the Sunday, providing snacks and a well earned hot chocolate, a lovely addition on a cold winters day.

We took lots of video so keep an eye our for a new release, coming soon!
