The Museum Estate and Development Fund has granted Bressingham Steam and Gardens £429,719 to allow them to put a new roof on the locomotive shed.
The building houses some of the Bressingham collection as well as some from the National Collection as well as providing a base for volunteers to maintain and preserve the collection.
The original corrugated roof panels will be replaced with composite roofing, providing a brighter and warmer area as well as providing a nicer environment for the locomotives, carriages and artefacts, including Royal Carriages and Black Prince.
Work will begin in November and will be completed over winter to avoid any disruption for visitors and it is anticipated that the work will be completed in February 2026 ready for the main season.
Ipswich based S&G Roofing has been appointed as principal contractor to carry out the work.
“ultimately this wonderful news allows us to better fulfil our mission to ‘preserve and maintain working steam engines for the benefit and enjoyment of the public’ and we can’t wait to be able to welcome you to this much improved space in 2026.”
Phil Rooke, General Manager of Bressingham Steam Museum
