Northern marks new record as 70% of all journeys use digital tickets

Over 70% of journeys on Northern trains used a digital ticket, with the highest single day being nearly 80%

Northern has made investments recently to make it easier than ever to buy a ticket on its app, website or vending machine.

Between the 5th of January and the 1st of February, 71.45% of journeys used a digital ticket.

Those who want a physical ticket can buy it at staffed stations.

“The demand for digital ticketing is only going in one direction and to exceed 70% of all journeys over the month is a real milestone.

“All of our trains have a conductor on board and by scanning tickets digitally we’re able to track much better where and when customers are travelling, which helps with service planning.
