The National Railway Museum has announced that the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government has agreed to a £15 million investment to the museum’s transformative masterplan and Central Hall project.
The investment will safeguard plans for visitor growth and future expansion and inspire the next generation of enthusiasts.
The announcement follows a review of the commitment made in Spring 2024 by the Conservative government and follows on from the previous investment of £18.6m in 2019.
Deputy Prime Minister Angela Rayner met with Craig Bentley, Director of the National Railway Museum, last week to congratulate the team.
“It was a pleasure to welcome the Deputy Prime Minister to the National Railway Museum to demonstrate how this £15 million investment will transform this much-loved site. This investment is pivotal to our plans for growth and to develop the museum as a place which is globally relevant, inspiring hundreds of thousands more visitors every year and fulfilling our role as the cultural gateway to York Central.”
