For the next six months, train services from Hillington West on the busy railway line between Glasgow Central to Wemyss Bay via Paisley Gilmour Street will be severely disrupted.

The disruption will last from Sunday, 16th February until Sunday, 17th August while Network Rail engineers carry out a 2.9m project to renew both station platforms.

Each platform is 190 metres long and have reached the end of their life. During the work, engineers will demolish and rebuild the platforms and resurface them with improved surfacing and drainage.

Platform 1 will be closed for three months from next Sunday, 16th and reopen on Sunday, 18th May. Platform 2 will then be closed from Sunday, 18th May. And reopen on Sunday, 17th August.

To minimise disruption, the station footbridge will remain open during the day, but it will be necessary to occasionally close it overnight to allow engineers to work safely.

While the improvement work is taking place, passengers should use the nearby Hillington East station, which has already been improved with the provision of CCTV.

Information about rail services during the work can be found online at ScotRail.co.uk. Alternatively, Network Rail has a 24-hour national helpline on 03457 11 41 41 which members of the public can contact with questions about the work. In addition, the latest information and progress updates can be obtained from Network Rail Scotland on X/Twitter: @NetworkRailSCOT

On the east side of Glasgow, platform 1 at Alexandra Parade station is being rebuilt in a 1.75m project that includes the installation of new lighting and CCTV, with work scheduled to be completed in May 2025.

“This vital work to renew worn-out infrastructure that’s reached the end of its life will help us to run a safe and reliable railway. We know there’s never a good time to close a station platform, and we’re grateful to passengers and our neighbours for their patience while this vital improvement work takes place.”

Ashley McDonald, scheme project manager for Network Rail Scotland
