The West Somerset Railway Association has announced that Joe Rogers is to run the London Marathon in aid of locomotive No. 80064.
The funds will help pay for the restoration of the 4MT, with the intention of having it run on the West Somerset Railway in around 4 years time.
Joe said “6 years after being the first recorded person to have run the length of the railway (visiting all 10 stations along the way), I’m thrilled to be running the 2025 London Marathon on behalf of the WSRA.“
80064, built in June 1953, is one of only 15 locomotives of this type preserved, the rest being scrapped

I wish you a pleasant 26mile run mate! Ive done many a marathon on Riddles 80064 when i was fireman on Exmth jct shed nr Exeter in Devon! Many thousands of miles and many engines like this from Westcountry sheds would transfer to Bristol Barrow road yard, Where i transfered myself, (under the 3rd preference rule) in 1964! So i would pull this and so many others from Bristol through the Severn tunnel to scrap all through the year of 1965!, Some would come back? To what is now Heritage. Good luck to you, (Will you run in overalls and firing shovel)? And Williton? 70017 n 70018 hymeks i would have on Bath rd shed were there? (On Minehead road)?
