British Transport Police (BTP) Detectives are appealing for witnesses in the greater Cambridge area following incidents of trains being hit by objects thrown towards them while on passenger services.

The incidents occurred near North Cambridge Station between Saturday 18 January and Sunday 2 February.

Since then, an increase in police officers have been dispatched to the area where the attacks have taken place.

There have been a total of six incidents in which projectiles have been thrown at trains, which have caused delays and cancellations of services, along with damage to the outer double-glazed windows of some trains. Though projectiles have entered the trains, no injuries have been reported.

“These are very serious incidents of endangering safety on the railway and can incur a significant custodial sentence.

Passengers will see an increased police presence in the area and we are working with the rail industry to tackle this issue.”
