West Midlands Railway unveils major £5m investment in Coventry maintenance facility for new electric train fleet

A £5m upgrade of the maintenance facility at has been completed, allowing West Railway’s new electric trains to be maintained there.

The work was completed at Coventry North Yard and mean that the Class 730s can be stabled there more effectively.

Seperate work is taking place at Soho Depot in Smethwick which will be the primary depot for the Class 730s and Tyseley Depot in Birmingham, where the diesel trains are maintained.

The improvements include toilet waste extraction technology installation, enhanced walkways, new lighting and CCTV.

“Investing into our depots is a major priority for us so we can improve the quality of service for our passengers across the region. Railway is a major employer in the West Midlands and we were delighted to be able to recruit further and improve our efficiency and capacity at Coventry North Yard.”
