The folks over PowerAdd Pro have sent over their 50,000 mah power bank for review, which we think people at Galas would find very useful indeed.

We have reviewed a number of battery packs from Jackery before, but those are rather large for carrying in a normal backpack.

In comes the PowerAdd Pro 50,000. This power bank has a whopping 50,000 mah battery cell inside it and comes in a measly 8cm x 8cm x 14cm, and weighs just 1.1kg

50,000 mah, whilst too big to be allowed on a plane, does allow for lots of charging of phones, tablets and cameras.

Using a Motorola phone with a 4,400mah battery, we managed more than 10 full recharges – that easily gets us through a gala trip and great if you are camping out!

The power bank has a simple design, with the ports on the top with a power button, a small torch which comes in handy when the light dips and a useful handle for carrying around.

The port selection is good, with a 3 USB A ports, a USB Type C port and a Micro USB cable.

65w of power can either charge the power bank via the Type C port or the can be used to charge other devices, like a MacBook Pro or other laptops – or simply fast charge your phone, whilst the Micro USB can charge the power bank at a slower rate.

We would have like to have seen the Micro USB power replaced with another Type C port, allowing a phone and a laptop to be fast charged.

All the ports have been tested and do send out the power that is quoted in the manual that is included in the box.

Charging – yes we need to charge the unit and even at 65w, the power bank will take between 6 and 8 hours to fully charge from 0 – 100 – but we have to remember this is a 50,000 mah cell, and is not just a small power bank.

In the box, you receive a manual, a Type C cable and a USB A to Micro USB cable. No plug to charge it, but an Anker costing up to 3 times more than this (with a smaller capacity we must add) doesn’t come with one either, so we cant really complain on that front!

The 50,000mah cell does tend to make the unit weigh more than your standard power banks, but we wouldn’t say is any more than is expected (ie it feels right for the capacity available).

PowerAdd Pro has added a neat little LED display on the top of the device which shows the percentage left; great for seeing if you are running low (unlikely), but we would have liked to have seen a bit more use cases of the device, such as output wattage etc. This is useful to see your device is actually charging.

We have found ourselves using the power bank in a number of locations, be it at the Severn Valley Railway gala, where it kept all of our cameras and phones charged all day with more than enough battery left at the end of the day, or on the train where no power points are available, simply grab this out of your bag and you are set all the way to the capital.

We have even used this at exhibitions to keep our card machine and tablet charged to take payments.

So… what does this versatility cost? Well, it is available on Amazon for just £48.99 – and at the time of writing, there is a 10% off coupon available. This is super value for money and at this price, the two bad points of note can almost be wiped off.

How do we rate this power bank, then? Well, ignoring the Micro USB port and limited use of the screen, we can’t really fault it! We are happily giving this power bank 4 out of five stars!

Thanks to PowerAdd Pro for sending the unit out for review. You can pick one up via our Amazon Link by clicking here.
