A group of volunteers who maintain floral displays at station in has received a £5,000 donation from (TPE).

The donation will help the ‘Malton in Bloom’ group towards increasing biodiversity and expanding floral displays at both the station and across their town.

Malton station was turned into a riot of colour after the volunteers installed planters full of flowers, and they can often be seen deadheading, weeding, or planting to maintain their displays in full colour.

With the donation, the volunteers plan to create more green spaces, which they hope will o encourage more wildlife and pollinators such as bees and butterflies.

TransPennine Express donated the £5,000 from its Customer and Community Improvement Fund designed to support projects that are focussed on sustainability, community connection, and accessibility.

Last year, a programme called ‘Merseyrail in Bloom’ was launched to make the stations in and around Liverpool and Merseyside more vibrant, greener, and welcoming, and a group of volunteers named ‘Todmorden in Bloom’, a splash of colour to Todmorden station where they created a Royal Horticultural Society garden.

Councillor Lindsay Burr, Deputy Mayor of Malton, commented that the very generous donation will ensure Malton in Bloom can continue its excellent work in making the town and station look blooming fantastic.

Gail Cook, Malton Town Clerk, added that the award would enable Malton in Bloom to enhance the station with colourful displays and vibrant plants for the enjoyment of residents and visitors to Malton.
