Model railway manufacturer has announced that it plans to release a model train set featuring a (LNER) Azuma train later this year.

With the launch of the Azuma high-speed train set, Hornby is following the national railway network. For many years, the iconic Class 43 InterCity 125 trains were Hornby’s entry-level train set.

They have been now superseded by variants of the InterCity Class 800 trains built by Hitachi Rail.

With the demise of the InterCity 125, or HST, Hornby felt it appropriate to introduce the Azuma set to reflect the changing landscape of modern rail travel.

The new Hornby London North Eastern Railway Azuma Train Set will come ready to run in its iconic Azuma livery, and supplied with track and a controller.

Although Hornby has had a stand-alone model of an Azuma available since 2022, this will be the first time it will be available as part of a complete train set.

Planned for release in November 2025, the London North Eastern Railway Azuma High-Speed Train Set will be on sale with a recommended retail price of £179.99 and a Hornby reference number of R1288M LNER Azuma High-Speed Train Set.

In 2023, Hornby released a model of the world’s most-famous steam locomotive, Flying Scotsman, to celebrate its centenary, as well as a model of the newly built P2 class Prince of Wales.

“We’re thrilled that Hornby are including the LNER Azuma in their entry level train set. The Azuma is a true icon of modern British rail travel, and we know this train set will be a hit with model railways newcomers. It’s an exciting time to be part of the evolution of rail travel, both in real life and in miniature form.”
