Students in the north of England can obtain season tickets for train travel during the entire 2024-25 academic year at half price.

Train operator Northern hopes the discount will encourage children under 16 and their parents or guardians to change their travel to school pattern from driving to travelling by train.

The tickets are available under Northern’s Under 16 Education Season Ticket scheme. Applications must be made by Friday, 20th September to obtain a half-price season ticket.

Further information about the offer and details of how to buy a ticket for any student commute is online at  northernrailway.co.uk/tickets/educational-season.

Earlier this year, Northern introduced a special offer that gives Carers a 25% discount on the price of their tickets, and also regularly offers discount codes to regular travellers.

As well as providing a significant saving on the cost of the school commute, U16 Education Season Tickets can be used at weekends and bank holidays too – not just the 195 days a year that schools are open.

We have a long-running campaign to encourage people to convert from road to rail – and if we can get young people in the habit while they’re at school, we hope they will stick with it when they move into further education or the workplace.
