Northern is looking for a group of volunteers to help care for Buckshaw Parkway Station in Greater Manchester and on the Manchester to Preston Line, near Euxton Junction.

The rail operator believes that station adopters would be a perfect fit for the station and is eager to speak to those interested in taking on this fantastic opportunity.

Station adopters or groups often known as ‘Friends of’ are volunteers from the community local to a station. The adopters aim to encourage engagement between the local community and their station via an array of projects in order to make it a more welcoming environment, including:

  • Floral displays

Craig Harrop, regional director at Northern, said:

“Station adoption groups provide a vital link between Northern and the communities we serve, and they all do fantastic work at our stations, providing the best possible environment for our customers and local people alike.”

“We’re very fortunate to have so many people who care so deeply about the railway and I’m incredibly grateful for all the time they donate and all the hard work that makes such a difference to the station environment.”

“Many of our stations have active adopters and ‘Friends of’ groups, but Buckshaw Parkway doesn’t and we’re looking for community volunteers who are willing to give their time to help us make a difference for their community.”
