Northern Installs Water Dispensers To Reduce Plastic Waste

To cut down on plastic waste, customers using some of Northern’s busiest stations will be able to refill their water bottles.

Over the next few weeks, water dispensers will be installed across 32 stations providing hands free chilled water:

Blackburn
Bolton
Blackpool North
Bradford Forster Square
Bradford Interchange
Castleford
Cheadle Hulme
Glossop
Guiseley
Halifax
Harrogate
Hazel Grove
Heaton Chapel
Hebden Bridge
Hexham
Horsforth
Ilkley
Keighley
Manchester Oxford Road
Manchester Victoria
Meadowhall
Mexborough
New Pudsey
Newton Le Willows
Rochdale
Salford Central
Salford Crescent
Shipley
Skipton
Warrington Central
Wigan Wallgate
Wilmslow

The water dispensers were originally trialled at Bolton and Castleford, and a further 19 are expected to be installed next year.

Customers will also be able to look at a digital counter which displays the number of times bottles have been refilled.

Mark Powles, customer and commercial director, said: “We want to provide our customers with unlimited free water refills and help them to stay hydrated, cut down on plastic pollution and save money.
