North Yorkshire Moors Railway Steam Footplate Experiences are back

The (NYMR) has announced the return of its Steam Footplate Experiences for the 2022 Season.

With a truly unforgettable journey on a heritage steam locomotive, participants can relive the golden age of steam. The footplate crews will welcome them onboard a working heritage steam locomotive to take in the sights, sounds, and smells of the steam age on a return journey between and stations.
The Steam Footplate Experiences include:

  • A 36-mile return footplate ride on a heritage steam locomotive along the highly scenic journey between Pickering and Grosmont (18 miles in each direction).
  • Time to have lunch (not included) and take photographs at Grosmont Station before the return leg of your journey.
  • One-year membership of the NYMR. For those who are already members of the NYMR, this cost will be deducted from the overall price of the experience.
  • A Souvenir Certificate signed by the locomotive's driver.

The experience operates most Mondays to Saturdays (with some exceptions) throughout the main operating season. All experiences start from and return to Pickering Station (YO18 7AJ), departing at 12:00 pm and arriving back at Pickering at 3:40 pm.

The price of the experience for NYMR members is £350 and for non-NYMR members IS £390.

Anyone purchasing a Footplate Experience as a gift who does not know the recipient's details should purchase a Gift card so that they can complete their personal details.

All participants should be physically fit and aged 16 years plus. A medical declaration will be required to sign on arrival at Customer Services.

Existing members purchasing a Steam Experience must have a valid membership for the date of the steam experience.
