TransPennine Express (TPE) is introducing a revised timetable from today, Monday 10th January.

The amended timetable is being brought in because of disruption to services caused by increased levels of sickness, the ongoing impact of COVID and the Omicron variant, as well as some industrial relations issues.

The changes will apply to services across all TPE routes and will provide a greater level of certainty for customers that their train will run.

The following services will be operated by TPE as part of their amended timetable:

Anglo-Scottish services:

  • Edinburgh Waverley to Manchester Airport, one train every two hours in each direction;
  • Glasgow Central to Manchester Airport, three trains per day in each direction;
  • Liverpool Lime Street/Oxenholme to Glasgow Central, two trains per day in each direction;
  • Edinburgh Waverley to Newcastle, five trains per day in each direction.

North TransPennine route:

  • Newcastle to Liverpool Lime Street, one train every hour in each direction;
  • Redcar Central to Manchester Airport, one train every hour in each direction;
  • Hull to Manchester Piccadilly, one train every hour in each direction;
  • Scarborough to Manchester Victoria/Liverpool Lime Street, hourly services will be replaced with a Scarborough to York hourly service, with additional peak-time extensions to/from Leeds
  • Leeds to Huddersfield and Huddersfield to Manchester, stopper services will continue to operate hourly.

South TransPennine route:

  • Cleethorpes/Sheffield to Manchester Piccadilly/Airport, will operate hourly in the morning and evening peaks, and every two hours in the off-peak period;
  • Sheffield to Cleethorpes, the last service of the day will operate as a rail-replacement bus service to enable rolling stock maintenance and stabling.

Further information on the changes can be found here: https://www.tpexpress.co.uk/travel-updates/amended-timetable

Customers should allow extra time and check before they travel via the TPE website. At weekends, services may be different because of engineering works taking place.

Matthew Golton, Managing Director for TransPennine Express said: “While they disappoint us to be making these changes and reducing services, our priority is keeping people moving and providing a greater level of certainty for our customers.

“We are sorry for any disruption this may cause to journeys and call on our customers to allow additional time for travel and to check carefully –for any changes to train times.

“We will continue to regularly review these changes in line with the current situation.”
