The railway line between Glasgow and Kilwinning will be closed on Sundays until 20 February as Network Rail replaces worn-out track in a £4m investment.

Over a mile of the track will be renewed at various locations including Howwood, Glengarnock, and Dalgarven.

The work is needed to help ensure the continued safe and smooth running of the railway.

Teams will be replacing the old, worn railway track by removing it and laying new stone ballast, sleepers, and rails. Due to the complexity of the work, it cannot be delivered without some short-term closures of the line.

During the closures, the following services will be affected:

Glasgow Central to Ardrossan Harbour

Liam Sumpter, Network Rail route director for Scotland, said: “The work we are undertaking is vital for the long-term future reliability of the line.

“Our engineers will be working around the clock to complete these complex projects as quickly as possible.

“We understand the inconvenience these works will cause to some passengers and residents and we thank them for their patience. We are committed to completing this work quickly and limiting disruption as much as possible.”
