Research undertaken by TransPennine Express (TPE) shows that 71% of Britains will be enjoying a holiday in the UK with 64% of those surveyed looking at stopping for up to a week.

The research found that the top ten top holiday picks are:

1. Scarborough
2. Edinburgh
3. Manchester
4. Liverpool
5. Newcastle
6. Leeds
7. Durham
8. Doncaster
9. Hull
10. Sheffield

The research also revealed that six out of ten 18 to 34-year-olds are choosing the staycation trend and holidaying in the UK for the next few months with reports of overseas restrictions and the possible risk of losing money as a knock-on effect of cancellation, respondents also reported also the need to save money as a reason for holidaying in the UK.

TransPennine Express are striving to make sure that their customers can rest assured and feel confident to book a last-minute getaway this summer and autumn with the rail operator also helping customers reunite with family, friends and loved ones by introducing savings of more than 50% when booking journeys in advance – for more information on advance bookings, click here to visit their website.

People looking to organise travel can find tickets available to buy online using the TPE website or the TPExpress App which allows payment via Apple Pay or PayPal with E-ticketing giving passengers the ability to use their phone instead of paper tickets.

Kathryn O’Brien, Customer Experience Director for TransPennine Express, said: “Holidays with family and friends are back on the agenda and we’re delighted to see that people will be travelling to Northern destinations and into Scotland for their next adventures.

“We know now, more than ever, that getting together has never felt better and we want to reassure our customers and holidaymakers that we are continuing to ensure that a thorough cleaning programme remains in place across our stations and on all of our trains.”
