The large project situated in Taff’s Well, Cardiff will see the raising of a road bridge and a new tunnel being constructing to connect the £100 million control centre, maintenance works and depot to the network.

The initial part of the project will see work start on preparing the site of the new tunnel and will take place from the Monday the 23rd of August and will be completed on Friday the 10th of December 2021.

Once this part of the scheme is completed phase 2 will begin and will see the installation of the new bridge, and will take place from Friday the 10th of December 2021 and finish during Autumn of 2022.

Unfortunately due to the work, the closure of Ffordd Bleddyn will need to take place throughout the entire project.

The closure will affect the junction off Cardiff Road and also the entrance to Taff’s Well railway station parking.

The closures will also include the pedestrian and cycle path (Taff Trail) closing for this part of Ffordd Bleddyn work and this will take place from Monday the 25th of October 2021, however, all routes will have diversions in place.

Taff’s Well railway station will be open as usual throughout the work and can be accessed via the entrance on Moy Road/Fforrd Bleddyn.

Whilst the large project is underway deep draining will also be installed in the area along with improvements to Taff’s Well station car park.

Karl Gilmore, TfW’s Rail Infrastructure Director, said: “We have a significant amount of work to carry out to create the South Wales Metro and this is a crucial phase of the development.

“We understand this is a lengthy road closure, however, this is unavoidable due to the complexity of the tunnel construction. We’re working closely with the local authorities to ensure disruption is kept to a minimum.

“We will do everything we can to work responsibly by ensuring our sites are well managed and our people are considerate to our neighbours.”
