Network Rail has announced that a section of the A17 will close to complete repair work.
Back in December 2020, the Swineshead level crossing received a new road surface, track and ballast to improve the ride quality for both road and rail users.
Recently movement in some of the new concrete slabs, which the track fits into, has been reported and needs repairing soon.
Closure of the road takes place between 7 pm on Saturday 8th of May to Monday 10th of May.
Drivers will be able to follow the signposted diversion, with taking extra time for journeys advised.
Rail users will have to take a rail replacement bus service between Grantham and Boston for the East Midland Railway services on Sunday 9th of May, making journeys longer than usual.
Passengers who need to travel are strongly advised to check their journey via National Rail Enquiries or with their train operator and allow plenty of time.

Why not just build a A17 bypass with a new bridge over the railway line. Similar to the A142 Ely Southern Bypass that was built to allow HGVs to avoid the level crossing and low bridge. And same could be said about the A137 at Manningtree, Essex which would also need a new bypass.
