PHOTOS: Steam locomotive 4920 Dumbleton Hall leaves the South Devon Railway

Dick Wood, from the South Devon Railway, has sent RailAdvent photos of the departure of GWR ‘Hall’ No. 4920 Dumbleton Hall.

The new home for the hall has not been confirmed, but has been reported to be West Coast Railways Company in Carnforth.

4920 Dumbleton Hall was built at Swindon Works in 1929 for £4375 and was initially allocated to Old Oak Common.

The South Devon Railway said: “We bid a fond farewell to GWR Hall class 4-6-0 No 4920, Dumbleton Hall, which is departing for pastures new.”

“All of us in the SDR family wish the locomotive the very best for her future and look
forward to seeing her back in use one day with her new owners.”

Dumbleton Hall was withdrawn in 1965 after travelling 1,396,966 miles, becoming the longest-serving Hall by around 2 years and is also being the oldest Hall to survive into preservation.
