UPDATE: The line has now reopened, but a speed restriction is still in place
A landslip has closed the railway line between Oxenholme Lake District and Windermere.
The landslip, in the Burneside area, is causing major disruption to Northern train services.
All train services between Oxenholme Lake District and Windermere are suspended until further notice.
Rail replacement buses are in operation, calling at all stations in between Oxenholme Lake District and Windermere.
Network Rail engineers are on site assessing the issue, but train services will be disrupted until further notice.
Passengers travelling between the Lake District and Manchester Airport can use TransPennine Express trains between Oxenholme Lake District and Manchester Aiport, and also Avanti West Coast between Oxenholme Lake District and Wigan North Western.
Chris Jackson, regional director at Northern, said: “We’re doing all we can, in partnership with colleagues at Network Rail, to keep our customers on the move. We’re operating buses where possible and have arranged ticket acceptance with other operators to and from Manchester Airport.
“The wintry weather continues to cause significant problems for our customers in Cumbria and I’d like to thank them for their patience and understanding.”
