Train operator, , has announced that they have received an entry from Down Under amongst others in their Train Manager Competition.

Submitting his entry from Melbourne was Lucas Ditchfield, who is eight years old. His entry detailed a GWR journey between Bristol Temple Meads and London Paddington.

Three schoolboys from Devon also submitted entries to the competition. Eleven-year-old Ewan Kaczanow, from North Tawton, announced a journey to Bristol Temple Meads; Fourteen-year-old Maximilian Thomas, from Exeter, a journey to Barnstaple; and Six-Year-old Edward Durbin, also from Exeter, a journey to Paddington.

A shortlist is now being drawn up by judges, which includes South West BBC Radio presenter David Sheppard.

Three overall winners will be chosen. They will receive a special pack which includes a set of GWR Top Trumps, a jigsaw puzzle and an adventure pack.

David said: “This was such a great idea to help home-schooling parents keep their children entertained and I’m only too pleased to help judge the competition. There’s a high calibre of entries so it’s going to be a tough task whittling them down.”

GWR’s Head of Communications Dan Panes said: “We have been working hard to help make sure customers feel safe when travelling on the railway this summer, including significantly enhanced cleaning and sanitisation of our trains.

“From this weekend we are also running even more train services. Please do, however, remember to wear a face covering, check your journey before travelling and avoid peak times where that is possible.

“It is also important to remember that not everyone is able to wear a face-covering for health or other reasons, and those reasons aren’t always visible, so please be considerate to others travelling.”

  1. Must be a young train enthusiast who likes trains in the UK and comes from Australia. Very good to hear. There are many young children and adults who like our trains and railways because we Brits built the railways and trains for them as history tells. No matter where they come from.
