Transport for London has announced that passengers using Mill Hill East Tube Station can now use the step-free facilities thanks to the completion of modernisation work.
Mill Hill East serves the Northern Line on the London Underground and sees almost 1.4 million customer journeys each year.
The new lift and link bridge were built off-site and craned into the station in August 2019.
This reduced the amount of time that engineers needed to work on-site, ensuring that disruption to passengers was kept to a minimum.
What did the officials say?
Heidi Alexander, Deputy Mayor for Transport, said:
‘The introduction of step-free access at Mill Hill East will improve the daily lives of passengers who use this busy station, especially disabled people, older people and those with young children.
‘I'm pleased that 11 more Tube stations are set to become step free this year – helping make our transport network more accessible for everyone.'
Tim Morrison, Director of Renewals and Enhancements at London Underground, said:
‘Mill Hill East station becoming step-free will make a positive difference to thousands of our customers.
‘It will now be much easier for those with mobility needs, heavy luggage or with children in buggies to access the Tube at this station. Improving accessibility across London's transport network is one of our top priorities, with making stations step-free a key part of this work.'

i was a bit upset that there is still a requirement to find a member of staff to use a ramp to board the train rather than raising platform, seems like half a job done
Will TfL add more lifts and ramps at stations that could be ideal for disabled commuters. Including on the rest of the Central Line to the East including the Hainault Loop (Wanstead, Redbridge, Gaints Hill) and from North Acton to West Ruislip.
And to add new lifts or ramps at stations on the London Overground Gospel Oak-Barking Line that isn’t step-free. Since the Gospel Oak-Barking Line has been electrified and Class 710 trains are running on the GOBLIN route.
And at other stations in Greater London that aren’t step free to become step-free. With ramps and/or lifts. Which TfL are upgrading stations on the TfL Rail routes that are to be step-free (except Hanwell).
