The Keighley and Worth Valley Railway have announced that Fowler 4F 43924 has reached the ripe age of 100 years old this year.

The 4F has received substantial winter maintenance to make sure it can operate with the highest level of reliability for the 2020 season.

Her first confirmed weekend of traffic is this weekend, on the 15th of February 2020.

This is fantastic news for 43924, and we wish her the best in her centenary year.

Yes, the Keighley & Worth Valley Railway are in action this weekend, despite being flooded out last weekend by Storm Ciara.

43924 is the sole surviving example of the Midland Railway built Fowler 4F, as the LMS built the other surviving 4Fs.

They were built between 1911 and 1923, with 43924 built in 1920.

The 4Fs survived into the end of steam with the last withdrawal in 1965. The same year 43924 was taken out of traffic and sent to Barry Scrapyard in Wales.

Fortunately, 43924 was rescued and was the first loco to leave Barry scrapyard for preservation.
