An update has been released on the restoration of Great Western Railway 6959 ‘Modified Hall’ Class No.6984 “Owsden Hall” and maintenance on No.6989 “Wightwick Hall”.

6984 “Owsden Hall”

Recent work on 6984 has seen the team preparing the boiler for lifting, such as getting the cab ready for lifting too.

The crankpins have also be reamed ready for the new taper pins.

Boiler work to be completed includes re-riveting the foundation ring, fitting a small number of copper side & crowds stays and fitting both new front tubeplate, boiler tubes and smokebox.

6989 “Wightwick Hall”

Returning home to Quainton from the Battlefield Line, 6989 will undergo winter maintenance and annual boiler exam (Tuesday 4th of February) in readiness for the 2020 seasons.

Using crew feedback, some minor adjustments will be made to the engine to improve the engine. Work continues on tender’s tank.
