LMS 10000 locomotive project needs £30,000 to complete major parts list

The LMS 10000 Project has announced that they have an opportunity to obtain parts and spares to complete their shopping list of major parts.

The parts include traction motors and a large number of bogie spares from Holland, cooler groups and electrical equipment including alternators.

The issue is that all of this equipment needs to be moved in a short space of time, during which the group are committed to moving two power units, lifting, stripping and moving bogies and chassis, getting the groups new sleeper coach ready for volunteer use and finally they need to cover the ongoing cost for the new Centenary Works building.

Altogether, an additional £30,000 will be needed.

The project now needs to raise the required funds to transport the large items within the time that they are available. Some of the items have been donated for free if the group can fund the transportation of the parts.

Donations can be made by single payment or monthly instalments.

All regular monthly donors are entitled to membership at no extra cost. The average amount given is £10 a month.

What did the officials say?

Society Secretary, Andrew Hoseason, explained,

“A year ago we set up our President’s Centenary Appeal in order to purchase and move pieces of kit. What we could not have anticipated then is that offers of equipment from various sources would come with the proviso that we removed them at all at virtually on the same date! A nice problem to have! Ordinarily we’d stage such ‘lift’ and ‘move’ projects in order to raise finance between each. However, like the proverbial buses, all these opportunities have come at the same time. Since timing is out of our hands we must therefore appeal to the enthusiast community to make up the shortfall. What is certain is that the opportunity to obtain most of these items will not occur again. Without these components the construction of 10000 is simply not possible. It is critical that we raise additional funds to hire the necessary cranes and transport as quickly as possible.”
