The Ffestiniog & Welsh Highland Railway has announced that the boiler No. 7111 has had its safety valves lifted for the first time.

The boiler was previously fitted to Garratt No. 129. It was last steamed in Africa, before heading to the Puffing Billy Railway in Australia with the locomotive.

It was then given to the Ffestiniog & Welsh Highland Railway’s and shipped over to the UK.

After two years of work and investment, the safety valves were lifted for the first time at 5 pm yesterday at Locomotive Maintenance Services in Loughborough…

The boiler will now be used on Beyer Garratt No. 138, whose boiler ticket is about to expire.
