Merseyrail has announced that its ticket prices are still some of the lowest in the country, despite a country-average increase of 2.86 per cent for 2020.
The train operator will freeze the price of its Family Ticket at just £11 – the same price for four years running.
Return tickets for train journeys on its network will rise by an average of 2.8%.
Merseyrail Railpass will rise by 2.8 per cent for 2020.
What did the officials say?
Suzanne Grant, Commercial Director at Merseyrail, said:
“We are proud to offer the most affordable and punctual rail service in the country, continually improving our ticket offer with new products coming in the next 12 months such as the Merseyrail Only Railpass.
“While there is a rise in ticket prices, 98 per cent of fares are reinvested back into the railway, which allows us to improve the network and continue to provide our passengers with a reliable, high quality service.”
