Passengers using Thameslink, Great Northern and Southern, and have season tickets, can now use the time-saving, convenient Key Smartcard at multiple stations – more than before!
Electronic tickets can also be bought and stored on a mobile phone, and can be used at over 160 stations!
This announcement comes as Govia Thameslink Railway celebrates national Smart Week, with a prize draw for one Key Smartcard holder to win back the value of their season ticket – up to £6000!
The benefits of using a Smartcard include time-saving at stations, more security compared to paper tickets, automatically generated delay repay tickets and pay as you go KeyGo.
The Key Smartcard is already in use at 255 stations across the Thameslink, Great Northern and Southern network, and will now work on the East Coastway route, from St Leonards Warrior Square to Hastings, via Ashford International.
In the coming weeks, the Key Smartcard will be accepted at 26 other stations, across other operators networks and routes, including the Cambridge to Kings Lynn, Dartford to Rainham, Swanley to Sevenoaks and Tonbridge, with more routes becoming available in the near future.
E-tickets that are bought on a mobile phone can be used at 161 stations on the Govia Thameslink Network.
What did the officials say?
Thameslink and Great Northern Managing Director Tom Moran said,
“We know our passengers want a smarter, easier way to travel and that’s what our ‘Key Smartcard’ and eTickets deliver. The Key is quicker than a paper ticket, more secure and means delay compensation claims can be processed automatically. I’m looking forward to rolling it out to more stations in the coming weeks.”
