Steam locomotive heading for Carlisle this Saturday

Steam locomotive 6201 Princess Elizabeth will be back in steam on the mainline and will be in Liverpool and Blackburn on Saturday 20th July 2019.

The Princess locomotive is on a special railtour. 6201 is hauling the Cumbrian Mountain Express on Saturday.

The railtour departs Crewe behind a diesel locomotive at approximately 05:30 am.

The railtour will then leave Crewe, bound for Carlisle, where it will pass through Acton Bridge (05:50), Runcorn (06:01), Liverpool South Parkway (06:12), Edge Hill (06:20) and Liverpool Lime Street at 06:22.

Here, the 6201 will be added to the front of the train. The train will depart with the locomotive at 06:38, it will then pass through Huyton (06:50), St Helens Central (06:58), Wigan North Western (07:22), Blackburn (08:53), Clitheroe (09:27), Hellifield (10:28), Ribblehead (10:56), Appleby (11:35) and Carlisle at 12:37.

After around 3 hours in Carlisle, 6201 will depart Carlisle at 15:20 bound for Crewe. It will pass through Penrith (15:44), Tebay (16:46), Oxenholme Lake District (17:01) and Carnforth D&UGL at 17:19.

Here, 6201 is taken off the train and is replaced by a diesel locomotive. It will pass through Preston (18:38), Wigan North Western (19:22), St Helens Central (19:45), Broad Green (20:35), Liverpool Lime Street (20:48), Runcorn (21:38) and Crewe at 22:15.
