South Western Railway has announced that its Paramedic team has won an award at the prestigious Railway Industry Innovation Awards.
The Paramedic teams at Clapham Junction and Wimbledon stations have made a remarkable difference to passengers and train journeys since they started in November 2018.
Nearly 400 passengers are taken ill on SWR services every year.
Since being introduced last November, the teams at Clapham Junction and Wimbledon stations alone treated 110 passengers.
The team received their commendation on Friday 28 June at the Railway Industry Innovation Awards in London.
The members of the Paramedic team that were commended are Chris Eason and Samantha Price (Clapham Junction), and Chris Lanyon and Andy Sims (Wimbledon station).
What did the officials say?
Samantha Price, Emergency Care Assistant at Clapham Junction, said:
“We’re here to help people wherever we can. The safety of our customers is our number one priority, ensuring they get the relevant treatment as safely and as swiftly as possible.
“I chose this career because it makes a meaningful difference to people lives: being that first person someone sees when they need help and going home knowing you’ve made a difference to someone’s life, no matter how big or small that may be.
“It’s an honour for us to be nominated and even better that we have been commended for the impact we’ve made to passengers lives.”
