The Snowdon Mountain Railway has announced that it is launching its own mobile phone app.

The aim of the app is to enhance the experience of it's steam and diesel trains.

Visitors to the North Wales narrow gauge railway can download the app for free and can use it to learn more about the 123-year-old railway.

Staff at Snowdon have been working on the app for the past 12 months, adding Welsh and English voice commentary, facts about each station on the mountain and even interactive 360° views.

The app is currently available in Welsh and English language versions, with other languages to follow.

What did the officials say?

Carrie Probin, Marketing Manager at , said:

“Our new app allows people around the world to learn more about the railway and its history, while also adding a new dimension for those travelling with us.

“App users visiting Snowdon will be able to enjoy an interactive journey with access to hidden content unlocked by Bluetooth beacons along the route.

“From Llanberis all the way to the summit, passengers can learn about each station and the surrounding landscape, listen to the audio commentary, reveal ‘then and now' photos, plus details about nearby points of interest.

“We've tried to get all the team involved, including asking local girl Janice Humphreys from Llanberis, who works in our ticket office, to show off her wonderful North Wales accent and provide the voiceover for the app.

“And, if at the summit the weather isn't at its best, passengers can use the app to show them 360° views from the top on a beautiful clear day.”
