The Wensleydale Railway has announced that LNER A1 Pacific locomotive No. 60163 ‘Tornado' is to visit the line twice in 2019.

All being well, Tornado will arrive on the line via the mainline connection from Northallerton on Saturday 9th February, (subject to a successful, imminent mainline test run).

The railway has said that the primary purpose of the visit is to use the line as a layover at Leeming Bar in between jobs and to conduct some maintenance.

However, they have also said that Tornado may be available to haul passenger trips along the line for the public to have an opportunity to ride behind this iconic locomotive before she bids a temporary farewell to the railway on Saturday 2nd March.

A couple of months later, 60163 will once again visit the line on Saturday 11th May and stay up to Friday 7th June.

During this period, the locomotive will be hauling passenger services on May 18th, 19th, 21st, 24th, 25th, 26th, 27th, 28th & 31st May and also on 1st, 2nd, 3rd & 4th June.

The railway has also said that they are planning some amazing events either side of the WensleyAle Festival to mark the visit of this lovely locomotive.
