South Western Railway has released time-lapse footage showing the completion of a South Western Railway train carriage refurbishment in just one minute.
The train operator is investing nearly £110m into refurbishing its existing Desiro and diesel train fleet. It is also refurbishing its fleet of Class 442s for the Portsmouth to London route.
Their fleet of trains have seen millions of passengers take journeys since they were introduced, however, they are now starting to benefit from a full refurbishment to meet the needs of today’s passengers.
The £50m Desiro programme is also designed to increase the seating capacity in standard class to meet the growing number of passengers on one of the UKs busiest rail networks.
Siemens is carrying out the refurbishment to the interiors, which is set to boost seats at peak times at Waterloo by 30% by December 2020.
The refurbishment work started in December 2017 at Eastleigh Works, with the first phase of refurbished trains back in service.
