The Princess Elizabeth Locomotive Society have posted their plans for steam locomotive No. 6201 “Princess Elizabeth”.

Problems and plans for 6201 “Princess Elizabeth”

After suffering problems with the small boiler tubes, the decision was taken by the Princess Elizabeth Locomotive Society to withdraw 6201 from traffic in late 2016, with the engine returning to West Shed on the Midland Railway – Butterley. Since then, 6201 has been stored while the society explored options for 6201.

With The Princess Royal Class Locomotive Trust requiring the majority of the space at West Shed to work on their fleet of steam locomotives, the Princess Elizabeth Locomotive Society decided that 6201 should be moved to Carnforth, where any work required to get 6201 back to Mainline running standard can be carried.

On February 22nd, 6201 was successfully moved to Carnforth via the West Coast Mainline with the help of 2 class 37 diesel locomotives from West Shed.

Appeals

The Princess Elizabeth Locomotive Society now need your help in order to see 6201 hauling mainline tours again.

The Society has launched two appeals to raise the necessary funds for work required on 6201.
