Greater Anglia has announced that passengers using Harwich Town railway station are to benefit from better lighting, resurfaced platforms and a new shelter for waiting in.

Train operator will be spending £500,000 to transform the station.

The canopy will be replaced with a new Accoya wooden shelter to help protect passengers from the elements.

The orange coloured lighting will also be updated with white LED lights. These will be brighter and will help improve safety and security.

Platforms at the railway station will be resurfaced with new tarmac. The coper slabs at the platform edge will be repointed and replaced if needed.

The work is expected to be complete by the summer.

What did the officials say?

Simone Bailey, Greater Anglia’s Director of Asset Management, said, “While this work is carried out we will strive to keep inconvenience and noise levels to a minimum with most of the work taking place during weekdays. I look forward to welcoming customers to a brighter, safer station as this upgrade is completed. Investing in upgrades to stations across the network is extremely important to Greater Anglia, demonstrating our commitment to providing excellent facilities and service to our customers.”
